We are pleased to announce that S-E-A has launched a new version of our external website!
This redesigned format segments our services into three overarching categories: Forensics & Imaging Sciences, Vehicle Testing & Safety, and Consumer Product Testing. We hope this structure will allow our clients to more easily access the information they are seeking.
Columbus associates Tom Maull, Mechanical Engineer, and Pat Connor, Research Librarian, assisted in the evaluation of scientific method-based research projects at The Ohio Academy of Science's Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair (BSEF) on April 1. BSEF is a preliminary fair for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) for Ohio high school students whose counties currently do not have a way to qualify for Intel ISEF.
As the projects were created and presented by high school students, Maull and Connor expressed how impressed they both were with the professionalism, presentation skills, college-level research and commitment to science of the students at such a young age. “If you closed your eyes, you would have thought you were listening to professional researchers and scientists,” Connor said.
S-E-A’s own Vessel Performance Mapping System (VPM) was recently featured in the February 2017 edition of Power and Motoryacht Magazine. Highlighting the hard work and skilled minds of S-E-A engineers, the article penned by Captain Bill Pike details the VPM's components and describes some potential benefits of using this device to monitor vessel speed, performance, and quality.
On an afternoon packed with demonstrations and presentations, Columbus Business First was on hand to document S-E-A's 1st Industry Day, and recently featured the event as the lead story in their publication. What Makes a Good Candle?
S-E-A’s Chemical and Candle Laboratory Director, Bob Moss, presented on behalf of the National Candle Association to numerous retail organizations about the basics of candle composition and associated industry standards. The webinar (see link below) discusses various candle components and reveals how these components ultimately contribute to the fuel. The concept of a “quality” candle is then evaluated from the point of view of the consumer, retailer and manufacturer. Bob also reviews the current ASTM standards for candles, warning labels, containers and accessories. He closes with a discussion on candle failures he has seen in the lab and the importance of retailer/manufacturer communication with regard to testing protocols.
