Mr. Alarcon received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University. His responsibilities at S-E-A include providing evaluations regarding the cause of electrical faults and malfunctions that result in loss, including fire, shock or electrocution, and damage to equipment or systems.
Mr. Alarcon has experience in the investigation of electrical controls, household appliances, consumer electronics, fire alarm equipment, and traffic signal control equipment. He also has experience with industrial, commercial, and residential electrical systems, including related equipment such as power transformers, metering equipment, and power lines.
He specializes in the origin and cause of electrical failures and malfunctions of components and systems. In addition, he investigates electrical faults and malfunctions, particularly those suspected of causing equipment damage or resulting in a fire, shock, or electrocution, using reconstruction techniques to determine the mode, sequence, or component failure resulting in the damage to equipment or personal injury. His background enables him to analyze various types of electrical power equipment and appliances, both on-site and in the laboratory, to determine the mode of failure.
Mr. Alarcon has more than 10 years of experience relating to commercial and manufacturing facilities installing and commissioning low voltage to high voltage electrical equipment. Mr. Alarcon’s work experience and background have allowed him to successfully conduct investigations related to project liability, motor vehicles, boat and marine systems, and commercial/residential fires. Mr. Alarcon has conducted over 500 investigations throughout his career and is frequently retained nationally by product manufacturers, attorneys and insurance companies within the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Additionally, Mr. Alarcon can review and address construction design documents and specifications. Prior to joining S-E-A, Mr. Alarcon was a Senior Electrical Engineer and Electrical Division Manager at a large engineering consulting firm. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing all electrical engineering activities related to building and facilities projects, including overall project execution, management, and quality of project deliverables. He also has experience working with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and related electrical systems. Mr. Alarcon’s professional affiliations include the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Mr. Alarcon is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) in the District of Columbia, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. He is registered internationally as an International Professional Engineer (IntP.E.), and certified as a Model Law Engineer of the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCEES). Mr. Alarcon has provided expert testimony in a court of law.
