Mr. Benfer received his Master of Science degree and Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. His responsibilities include investigation and analysis of fire and explosion incidents involving residential, commercial, and industrial structures and vehicles; investigation and analysis of incidents involving fire protection systems and life safety systems; experimental analysis of flame spread, fire dynamics, and fire hazards; code analysis; and other related fire protection engineering analyses. He is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) in 17 states and the District of Columbia. Mr. Benfer is also a Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI®), Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI). He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), and National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). Prior to joining S-E-A, Mr. Benfer worked for Jensen Hughes, Inc. for eight years where he was involved in fire investigation, conducting small- and large-scale fire tests, and fire research. Mr. Benfer was the principal investigator on a National Institute of Justice (NIJ) program researching, testing, and evaluating the forensic signatures of overheating connections and arcing in electrical receptacles.
