Mr. Elwardt has over 20 years of electrical engineering experience in the electrical power industry on all voltage levels.

Mr. Elwardt earned his degree in Electrical Power Engineering from the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Germany, and was a Fulbright Exchange Scholar in the Master of Science Program in Electrical Power Engineering at Clemson University in South Carolina.

He is also a trained electrician.

At S-E-A, Mr. Elwardt conducts investigations and analyses of fires, equipment breakdowns, and personal injuries involving a wide range of equipment, products, vehicles, and systems. He performs evaluations to determine the root cause of events and investigates losses.

Prior to joining S-E-A, Mr. Elwardt was an Electrical Engineer with the power utility in Berlin, conducting interconnection and network planning. Prior to that, he worked for a highpower test lab, also in Berlin. He served for several years in a forensic engineering and investigation firm, determining the cause of fires and electrical failures in commercial and residential electrical systems in Germany.

Mr. Elwardt’s experience enables him to analyze various types of electrical power networks and equipment (i.e., transformers, circuit breakers, power lines, commercial and residential electrical systems, etc.) and appliances on-site and/or in the laboratory to determine the cause or result of an incident (i.e., fire, equipment damage, or personal injury). He also conducts tests to determine the reliability of products.

He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Michigan and a Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).

Mr. Elwardt’s professional affiliations include the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Power & Energy Society (IEEE - PES).
