Ms. Hetzel has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from the College of Wooster.
She is the Senior Analytical Chemist at S-E-A. Her expertise includes isolating and analyzing fire and explosion debris in accordance with standard methods, operating/maintaining an Agilent gas chromatograph (GC) with mass selective detection (GC/MS), and various other GC-detector systems.
She conducts consumer product testing for the candle industry in regard to performance, safety, and composition, including U.S. Customs Laboratory Methods 34-07 and 34-08 for the quantification of paraffin wax.
Ms. Hetzel is a Fellow of the American Board of Criminalistics (F-ABC) in Fire Debris Analysis, a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM International), and is the ASTM Co-Chair of the E30 Subcommittee on Criminalistics (E30.01) and is the vice chair of the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) Fire Debris and Explosives Analysis Committee.
She has provided expert testimony in state and federal courts of law.
