Biography
Mr. Goodman received his Master of Science degree and Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland. His responsibilities include: the investigation and analysis of fire and explosion incidents involving residential, commercial and industrial structures, land-based vehicles and heavy equipment, marine vessels, lithium-ion batteries, fire-related deaths and injuries. He investigates incidents involving fire protection and life safety systems including, but not limited to, water-based fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry and preaction) commercial kitchen fire protection and exhaust systems, special hazard fire suppression systems (gaseous, chemical and foam systems), fire detection and alarm systems and residential smoke alarms. Other responsibilities include analysis of incidents related to fire department responses, fire apparatus, and firefighter operations, gas and electric utility distribution, fire reconstruction (analysis of flame spread, fire dynamics and fire hazards), computer fire modeling, egress analysis, code analysis, confined space incident analysis, fire testing and research, carbon monoxide exposure analysis and other related fire protection engineering analysis.
Mr. Goodman is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) in Fire Protection by the States of Maryland and Texas. He also has the following certifications: Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI®), Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI). Additionally, Mr. Goodman is a member of the local and international chapters of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). He is a Principal Member of the NFPA Committee for Fire Department Apparatus and an alternate on the NFPA Committees Confined Space Safe Work Practices and Professional Qualifications Correlating Committee. Mr. Goodman is also a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician of 20 years with the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company, where he has served with the highest rank of Chief Officer (Captain). He currently serves as the Heavy Rescue Lieutenant. He has numerous certifications in firefighting, rescue, hazardous materials and emergency medical services. Prior to joining S-E-A, he spent six years with Combustion Science & Engineering, where he was involved with fire investigations as well as fire protection engineering. Mr. Goodman has provided expert testimony in a court of law.
