Biography
Mr. Zaralban received his Bachelor and Master of Civil Engineering specializing in structures from the Georgia Institute of Technology. As a licensed professional engineer in nine states, his extensive background in structural design aids him in investigating construction and design deficiencies relating to the building envelope and structural failures for high-rise, mid-rise, low-rise structures, townhomes, single-family residences, and chemical, industrial, and municipal facilities.
In addition to his professional engineering expertise, Mr. Zaralban is also a Structural Masonry Inspector with expertise in the evaluation of pedestrian ingress/egress ways, including a slip resistance certification in Certified Operator of English XL Variable Incidence Tribometer. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). He is an ASTM Committee Member, E06 Performance of Buildings.
With more than 45 years’ experience in Civil/Structural Engineering,
Mr. Zaralban has provided expert testimony and has provided expert analyses of allegedly defectively designed/constructed buildings on behalf of designers, developers, general contractors, subcontractors, homeowners, and homeowner associations. The analyses have included multiple building components including: building envelopes (stucco, EIFS, siding, brick, building wrap, paint/sealant); windows and doors; waterproofing; structural framing (cast-in-place, precast and post-tensioned concrete, wood, masonry, steel and aluminum); wood and metal trusses; foundations (slab-on-grade, soil bearing, piles); stairs and railings; roof finishes; and the effects of construction activities (vibrations, excavations) on adjacent structures. Mr. Zaralban has also provided expert testimony and analyses of marine structures including bulkheads, seawalls, docks, and marinas which were evaluated for design/construction deficiencies and/or determining the extent of damage resulting from storms, vessel impacts and dredging activities.
