Akash Rao

Mr. Rao is a Civil/Structural Engineer, in the Baltimore, Maryland office and provides investigations and consultation for a variety of projects involving bridges, tunnels, transportation structures, residential, municipal, commercial, and industrial structures and facilities. On these projects, he performs examinations and evaluations to determine the presence, extent, and/or cause of damage to various components due to weather-related events (wind, hail), potentially defective construction, water intrusion, structural collapses, strikes to bridges and marine structures from over-height trucks, bridge failures and collapse due to overloading, and strikes to fender systems and dolphins from navigation traffic. He also provides investigation and consultation for construction-related projects that includes, but is not limited to, the review of original design documents, specifications, erection plans, construction shop drawings and request for information (RFIs) and non-conformance reports (NCRs).

Prior to joining S-E-A, Mr. Rao was a Senior Project Manager with more than 17 years of experience in project management, project delivery, technical oversight, design, construction, inspection, repairs and rehabilitation of bridges (fixed and movable), tunnels, ancillary highway/roadway structures (retaining walls, MSE walls, sign structures, traffic signal mast arms, high mast lighting poles), marine structures (dolphins, fender systems, seawalls, docks, marinas, wharf piers, wharf industrial buildings) water treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and flood protection structures. He delivered these projects for clients through conventional design-bid-build delivery and also through various alternate delivery mechanisms such as Design-Build (DB), Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) and Public-Private Partnership (P3).

He received his Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Auburn University, his Master of Technology in Structural Engineering from IIT Kanpur, India and his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, India. He is a registered Professional Engineer and registered Structural Engineer licensed in many states. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
